Bakerdays Letterbox Cake Review

Hubby and I are apart for 7 weeks which means we won't be together on Valentine's Day.
Before we had children we didn't bother with Valentine's Day and we found the whole idea a bit silly. Something changed though when we had Eva. Perhaps it was because we wanted to remember why we had children in the first place and show each other how much we mean to each other.

This year I'm in Australia staying with my mum and he is back home. I wanted to send him something but couldn't come up with any ideas. Fortunately, the lovely people at BakerDays asked if I would like to review one of their cakes. This was an offer I couldn't refuse as I knew I could send hubby a Valentine's themed cake from them. Actually, I almost refused as I wanted to eat the cake myself and didn't want to miss out.

BakerDays are a website where you can send cakes by post. I thought this was a genius idea. It's something different to the traditional flower or balloon sending companies. They make 4 different sized cakes, one of which is a letterbox cake (as it says on the tin, it fits through the letterbox). They also make cupcakes. They have a huge range of different different themes to choose from such as mother's day, birthdays etc and you can personalise some of the wording on the cakes and even put on photographs.

I got to review a letterbox sized cake which was delivered as pictured below. This costs 14.99 and serves 3-4 portions. I think the letterbox cake is a genius idea as let's face it not everyone is at home on their birthday and if they are out they don't have to go to a delivery depot to collect something.

Thought i'd better mention that all pictures have been by my husband and I haven't actually seen the cake in real life or tasted it. Those opinions will all be my husbands.

I loved how it looked when it arrived. It was presented in a gorgeous keepsake tin which will definitely be put to good use afterwards. I loved the fact that they included some love hearts for Valentine's Day too.

I chose a cake from their Valentine's range. There were so many to choose from but I knew i wanted one with our photo on it. I decided to opt for one that would make him laugh rather than it being too soppy. I picked the one featured below which is called We make a lovely pair. I then got to choose what flavour I would like the cake from vanilla sponge, chocolate chip sponge and fruit cake. It had to be chocolate for him. There's even dairy free and gluten free options available, which I think is fantastic to see.

From an ordering point of you, the experience is so easy and quick once you've decided what you want. The hard part is choosing from their big range. The website is simple to navigate around. Delivery is fast too. There are next day delivery options available and also first class.

Arwyn was delighted with the cake. He was so surprised and he had no idea that a cake would be hiding in that package. He honestly thought it was a fantastic idea. I asked him to write down exactly what he thought of it.

"The tin is a nice touch, it keeps the cake protected and also is great to keep for baking afterwards. The print was a great quality. The writing and photo were very clear. The cake is the perfect size for one or 2 people to share. The chocolate cake was moist and the icing wasn't too sweet. I couldn't put it down and finished it within 2 days. I looked to order one straight away for Kerry but stupid Australia doesn't accept things like this through customs. It's such a great gift idea."

Overall, both of us can't wait to order another one. We are both very happy with the service and the product itself. With Mother's Day coming up next month and my birthday in April, hopefully I will get to taste one.
