We were recently asked to review the Disney Princess Royal Pet Salon game. Eva loves anything to do with Disney so we couldn't wait for it to arrive.
When the game arrived her face lit up as soon as she saw it. She immediately recognised Ariel and Cinderella on the front. She loves animals too so the fact that the game comes with some minature animals as playing pieces caused her to become a bit over excited.
Setting the game up is easy enough (well when you don't have a young toddler around). Eva was very enthusiastic in wanting to learn and I suppose she should be seeing as it's her game. It took us a couple of minutes to set up.
The game can be played with 2-4 players and is suitable for ages 3+. Eva is 3 in early January so at the moment it's slightly out of her age range but still a good gauge as to what she'll enjoy for Christmas and her birthday.
You start with your animals in the centre of the board and the idea is that you spin the wheel to find out whether you can move or flip over some cards. You then move from room to room searching for goodies and collecting cards. The player with the most cards (goodies) wins. You also have to build up a picture clock whilst the game is going on. Once the clock is completed that signals the end of the game.
Eva couldn't wait to get the game started. She was very good at spinning the wheel, moving her pet and turning the cards over but she couldn't quite grasp what she had to do with the cards and instructions. She was very happy to just use imaginative play with the game and was quite content playing with the various pets and just moving amongst the various rooms. This is probably because the game is recommended for ages 3+ and she isn't 3 for another 4 months. I'm sure with perseverance she'll learn and understand more, the more we play it.
I think it's a great game though for children of the right age. It's bright and colourful and full of different areas to explore. It's ideal for a Disney Princess pets fan. It's also fairly educational as there are lots of numbers and counting involved when moving around the game. There's also a lot of matching through finding the goodies shown on the cards to on the boards. This helps with children's memory. It'll make a fab christmas present for a little princess in the making.
